Lakoff Is Not A Political Pundit
Sun Aug 24, 2008 at 01:20:58 PM PDT
Some have suggested, in recent comments on this site, that George Lakoff is only a Political Pundit and his theories do not apply outside of Politics. I submit his theories apply to all areas including Theology. More after the fold.
Lakoff on Saddleback
Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 10:52:23 AM PDT
The San Francisco Bay Area Chronicle interviewed George Lakoff on his analysis of the Saddleback Church forum. Please follow this link to read full interview. The upshot of the analysis is that Barack Obama did not do as well as John McCain.
At the Saddleback forum with Pastor Rick Warren on Saturday in Orange County, the Republican presidential candidate delivered on-the-money messages and answers so effective they were "scary to me," said George Lakoff, a renowned author and UC Berkeley linguistics professor who has studied how the human brain absorbs and processes messages.

Faith Based Programs and Hamburger

I was sick once, and recovered through the help of the Richmond Rescue Mission in the heart of Richmond, California’s Iron Triangle. The symptoms of my illness were pride, arrogance, and denial. When I reached my "lowest low" I found myself walking into the Mission.
DFA Night School - George Lakoff
Thu Jul 17, 2008 at 10:03:19 PM PDT
Today I attended a online seminar given by George Lakoff. This live seminar is part of a political training curriculum presented by Democracy For America. George Lakoff spoke about his new book The Political Mind : Why You Can't Understand 21st Century American Politics with an 18th Century Brain. Todays seminar, lasted 90 minutes and can be accessed by clicking here.
Below is not so much a detailed account of the seminar, but some of my thoughts and observations on the seminar and book.

This is an example of George Lakoff's framing. Think of how much information is conveyed in this one sentence. Let's take a closer look.
Pew Forum - 21% of self-defined atheists believe in God

I would like to fit into a category. But, I'm having trouble finding one. Not that it maters so much at this site, because everyone here is accepting of everyone that plays nice. I few months ago, in a comment to a diary on this site, I called myself an atheist that belived in God. I made that up, but it was sincere and I can live with it. (more below the fold)
Share Your Hell Fire Moment

I worked & lived at a Rescue Mission for 1 1/2 years. We had different guest pastors that gave 2 services each day. During that time I attended over 1000 services.
Each month there was one Guest pastor that preached on Hell, Brimstone & Damnation. The first time I heard him I was turned off and confused. (I have intellectual problems with a literal Hell.)
Online Progressive Faith Community

In Pastor Dan's Thu Mar 13, 2008 coffee hour he invited us to give him some advise about building an online progressive faith community. I don't have advise, but I have a lot of thoughts & ideas that concern me. First of all, what is the price we pay for being a member of this community?
My personal geis or concern as been to give back to the various communities around me. (I learned of geis here on this site from Alexandra Lynch, and I hope I'm using it correctly)
